The work explores the notion of space, in particular the contrasting but analogous spaces of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria-the Victorian Mansion and the modern additions that house the gallery spaces. The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is a unique structure in that two diametrically opposed spaces are joined, with functions that appear to contrast each other: a private home combined with an institution. The house was designed with such opulence yet the additional gallery spaces could not be more non-descript. Although such differences exist between them they both offer versions of the modern utopic ideal. This project explores physical perception and the concept of space, primarily within built structures.
